Celebrating Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month: Advancing Palliative Care Through International Partnerships

In recognition of Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month, the Latino Professionals, Patients, and Families in Hospice and Palliative Care Forum of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) invites clinicians, educators, researchers, trainees, and healthcare leaders to join a special international panel discussion exploring the evolving landscape of palliative care across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the United States.

This inaugural event will bring together distinguished palliative care leaders from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico to discuss advances in clinical care, workforce development, education, research, leadership, mentorship, and efforts to advance access to care that are improving the quality of life for patients and families facing serious illness.

International panelists will share insights on the current state of palliative care in their countries, highlight innovative programs and collaborative efforts, discuss opportunities and challenges in expanding access to care, and explore strategies to strengthen international partnerships that support the field’s continued growth.

By participating in this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the current landscape of palliative care in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
  2. Describe innovations and challenges in developing the palliative care workforce and fostering leadership and mentorship.
  3. Identify strategies for expanding access to care for Hispanic-Latino populations across international settings.
  4. Explore strategies for developing sustainable international partnerships that advance clinical practice, scholarship, and advocacy.
